About
Me as a Simpson My name is Sammy Larbi and at the moment, I work on web applications as a freelancer, primarily in Ruby, using Rails as the delivery mechanism. I've done a little work recently with iOS and Objective C.

Aside from Ruby, I've also worked professionally in ColdFusion, Java, C# and C++, and I'm happy to work with whatever platform is required. I've worked on web, mobile, and desktop applications. I've even had the excitement of playing one of my own games on the XBox 360 as part of my college career.

Speaking of that, in May 2008, I finished my graduate studies at the University of Houston in the Computer Science Department.

I didn't specialize in anything, but I did explore things such as automata, the software development process, and machine learning. Adding to that list, I studied data management, artificial intelligence, game development and bioinformatics. I finished up by taking a course that studied data structures and algorithms, and another one in advanced bioinformatics.

After getting my MS, I accepted a research and programming position in the Bioinformatics Lab at UH, in addition to the responsibilities above. I've since moved on from that, but it was a lot of fun and something I hope to return to in the future.

Other than that, I've got a B.S. degree in Computer Science, and another in Political Science (both from UH).

In the past, I've done things like cutting-up-chickens, selling smokes, delivering pizzas, and playing in a punk band (that didn't pay the bills, though). But thanks to a good friend of mine named Grant, the good folks at Powersource gave me a job on January 6, 2001, and I've been getting paid to have fun at work programming ever since.
